"I may forgive them, but I'll never forget!" We've all have either said it or heard sometime throughout our lives. What exactly is forgiveness? Merriam-Webster defines it as (adj.): allowing room for error or weakness.
Allowing ROOM for error or weakness, Wow! The word Mercy automatically came to mind when I saw the definition using the word Room.
Frequently we ask the question "How could he," or "Why would she?" Rarely thinking about how often God forgives us on a limitless basis. It is a task to let go of past hurts and the numerous questions that we have. Some things in life will never have an answer, or the answer will come at a time when we do let go. It saves US in the end to release!
Here's What Jesus has to say about forgiveness...
"Then Peter came to Him and said, 'Lord how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?' Jesus said to him, 'I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.'" (Matthew 18:21-22)
Jesus said, "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 'But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons [daughters] of your Father in heaven.'" (Matthew 5:43-45a)
If you expect Mercy, you have to GIVE Mercy. Who does it hurt in the end if you continue to hold on to anger and confusion from the past? "If your enemy challenges you to go one mile, go with him two"-Jesus
