Daily Bread for Thursday: Happiness

Will God give me real, lasting happiness?

GOD'S RESPONSE

O LORD Almighty, happy are those who trust in you. Psalm 84:12

Happy are those who obey his decrees and search for him with all their hearts. Psalm 119:2

Happy are those who fear the LORD. Yes, happy are those who delight in doing what he commands. Psalm 112:1

We are happy when a tool-a whisk, kitchen knife, or garden clipper-works in the way it was intended to. This feeling of happiness is just a shadow of the lasting happiness we will experience when, as human beings, we function in the way God intended when he made us. He made us to live and relate to others in certain ways that are clearly described in the Bible. When we function as God intended, we discover real, lasting happiness, and we have the greatest possible impact on our present and our future. Achieving our purpose brings true happiness.
