The kids’ report cards, work and art from elementary school are safely tucked away in boxes. As well, to me, there’s nothing better than having a pantry full of food, so I’ll never run out. Currently, there are 75 rolls of toilet paper in my basement, because I forgot I was already fully stocked.
But the idea that I could also be storing up wrath against myself is frightening.
Paul warned the Romans that the end result of their stubbornness and unrepentant hearts would be God’s anger directed against them. You see, there will be a day in the future when we will all face God’s judgment. On that day, God’s wrath will be revealed. “God will give to each person according to what he has done” (Romans 2:6).
The last thing I want to do is stockpile God’s wrath.
The only way to escape God’s wrath is through the perfect sacrifice of Jesus:
Repentance is the key. Until I acknowledge my sin, wrath is being stored up against me, but as soon as I repent – admit my sin and turn from it – I am considered righteous through the redemption that comes from Jesus.
