Shop Smart

Since people may pop up unannounced or bring guests, slightly overestimate the amount of food and supplies you’ll need. Make a detailed list considering diabetics, vegetarians and children and decide where to purchase these items. People waste money and don’t always get the best product by doing one-stop shopping. The local bakery might have your favorite pie and it’s cheaper to buy condiments, meat, and liquor in bulk from a wholesale store. Cooking everything is time consuming, so pick up some canned beans, chips and ready-made potato salads and add your own seasonings to them. Store-bought desserts also tend to be tasty and offer a good variety. Also, stock up on non-food items that’ll be in high demand such as trash bags, napkins and hand sanitizer. Marinate your meat and make your sides the night before so you’re not rushing when people arrive. Having a balance of fresh and frozen foods will give you some wiggle room in case you need to accommodate more people.
