"Live Your Life Off the Wall" Remembering the Legend: Michael Jackson

August 29, 1958-June 25, 2009

For those of us old enough to remember, being glued to the television for a Michael Jackson video was an ordinary thing. We all loved his music, whether you were Black, White, American, Australian, Chinese, etc. His music, energy, and humanitarianism touched our lives and influenced us to be a "Dancing Machine."

I remember watching the "Bad" Tour while he performed "Dirty Diana" and crying for at least an hour!! I was in love with Michael Jackson. What young lady wasn't?

It's hard to believe that a year ago today, he left us, leaving us only with his legacy. Enjoy my tribute to the King of Pop, and feel free to leave a comment about him, your favorite song, and/or what you've learned from his gentle spirit.

Michael Jackson, one of the most widely beloved entertainers and profoundly influential artists of all-time, leaves an indelible imprint on popular music and culture.
It's Impossible to fill his shoes!

His Achievements...

He was inducted onto the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1984. Throughout his career he received numerous honors and awards, including the World Music Awards' Best-Selling Pop Male Artist of the Millennium, the American Music Award's Artist of the Century Award and the Bambi Pop Artist of the Millennium Award. He was a double-inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, once as a member of The Jackson 5 in 1997 and later as a solo artist in 2001. Jackson was also an inductee of the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002. His awards include many Guinness World Records (eight in 2006 alone),13 Grammy Awards (as well as the Grammy Legend Award and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award), 26 American Music Awards (24 only as a solo artist, including the "Artist of the Century", but not the poll of "Artist of the '80s")—more than any artist—, 13 number one singles in the US in his solo career—more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era—and estimated sales of up to 750 million records worldwide, making him the world's best selling male solo pop artist On December 29, 2009, the American Film Institute recognized Jackson's passing as a "moment of significance" saying, "Michael Jackson's sudden death in June at age 50 was notable for the worldwide outpouring of grief and the unprecedented global eulogy of his posthumous concert rehearsal movie This is It."Jackson will be inducted into the Dance Hall of Fame in 2010.

In 1977, Jackson landed a starring role alongside Diana Ross in the all-black film musical The Wiz, a retelling of The Wizard of Oz; here he met producer/composer Quincy Jones for the first time. Encouraged by the success of the Jacksons' self-produced, mostly self-written 1978 album Destiny, Jackson elected to resume his solo career when his management contract with his father expired shortly thereafter. With Jones producing, Jackson recorded his first solo album as an adult, Off the Wall. An immaculately crafted set of funky disco-pop, smooth soul, and lush, sentimental pop ballads, Off the Wall made Jackson a star all over again. It produced four Top Ten singles, including the number one hits "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough" and "Rock With You," and went platinum (it went on to sell over seven million copies).

That is really nice. When I think about Michael Jackson, I think about the lives and generations he touched. With me it's me, my daughter and my granddaughter. The media don't talk about the charities he gave to and how he was misunderstood, they always seem to bring up the bad things. People now days have lost their heart. They don't look into a person's heart. Everyone is just so self-ish these days. I often wonder how people will end up in the future. With the economic crisis, people still don't get it to try to help each other. Everyone is out for just one person.
