Money: Scholarships for the "Seasoned" Student. It's Never too Late!!

Have you recently thought about going back to school? Are you currently enrolled in school but dealing with the stress of financial aid? I found some scholarships that may encourage you to decide to go back and get your degree or relieve some of the stress of worrying about how to pay for school. Where there's a Will, there is a way...

Age-Specific Scholarships
Scholarships for Older Students Beyond College-Age
If you're planning on going to school and you're 25 or over, there are a few sources you can tap into to receive monies to help fund your higher education. These scholarships are not available to younger students, and some are quite sizeable.

Scholarships for Ages 25+
If you're a U.S. woman who is at least 25 years old and has been accepted at an accredited American college or university, you may be eligible for the BPW Foundation's Career Advancement Scholarship Program. You'll have to demonstrate that you have a financial need, and any monies you receive can only be used for associate, bachelor, or graduate degrees. Award amounts are not set, as they are determined by each recipient's need.

Scholarships for Ages 35+
If you're a 35+ female who is a beneficial member of Royal Neighbors of America, you can apply for their New Horizons Scholarship. Up to $5,000 is available to nontraditional students who enroll part- or full-time at an accredited university, college, vocational school, or junior college.
Royal Neighbors of America also offers a Life Enrichment Scholarship for males or females 35 and over who are beneficial members and are taking short-term courses to further their education. Five $250 awards are given annually.
If you're a female student age 35 or over enrolled at any technical or vocational training program or undergraduate institute of higher education, you can apply for the Jeannette Rankin Foundation Women's Education Fund. There are several $1,500 awards given out annually.

Miscellaneous Age-Specific Scholarships
For women who have been out of school for at least five years, there are a number of Talbots Women Scholarship Funds available. Each year, five $10,000 scholarships and 50- $1,000 scholarships are distributed by Talbots, an international women's clothing company, to support the educational pursuits of nontraditional females.

Black and Hispanic women will find unending sources for educational funds, some from colleges and universities and many from public and private sources.
• The Margaret MacNamara Memorial Fund is open to international women born before 1970, with other stipulations attached. Students from outside the United States can locate quite a few scholarships available for them, especially as more and more emphasis is put on the oppression of women in third-world economies.
• The American Association of University Women’s Selected Professions Fellowships for African American women in Business, Law, or Medicine offer competitive and generous funds: $5,000 to $12,000. Applicants must be entering a graduate or post-graduate program.
• World Studio.org is a non-profit, international arts organization that works very hard to promote the work and education of minority and disadvantaged students. If you are “into” graphic arts, painting, furniture design, new media, photography, and a host of other expressive forms, check out the WorldStudio AIGA Scholarships. Awards range from $2,000 to $6,000.
• Do not fail to explore your scholarship chances through the United Negro College Fund or the Hispanic College Fund.
