Heartstrings for Angels

Every city has crime, every city has areas that are considered to be the unsafest roads to travel. I came across some information that was deeply heartbreaking, painful to watch, and difficult to fathom. Instead of wishing that there was something I could do, I realize that words of comfort may not mend broken hearts-but they can somehow bring relief to a victim's family that their loved one's life was not in vain.

Here are some facts:

During the last five years, there were over 23,000 verified violent gang crimes in the City of Los Angeles. These include 784 homicides, nearly 12,000 felony assaults, approximately 10,000 robberies and just under 500 rapes. In the last few years the City of Los Angeles has experienced an epidemic of youth violence that has been rapidly spreading from the inner cities to the suburbs.

I came across a story of a young lady with a promising future, an Angel snatched from her loving family in December 2006. ~14-year-old Cheryl Green, was standing with a group of friends on Harvard Boulevard, just south of 206th Street, when two men approached them in broad daylight. Without saying a word, one suspect pulled a gun and opened fire, killing Green and wounding three others, witnesses and police said.

Heartstrings for Angels

This year, along with your help, I'd like to mail Christmas & Holiday cards to families who have lost their loved ones due to street violence within the past five years. I know that cards will not replace their loved ones, but they can at least bring comfort to families dealing with tragic lost and allow them to know that somewhere, even on another coast-thoughts and prayers are with them.

If you are not within the Atlanta area or would not be able to attend the official meeting-an email message may be sent as words of comfort also. We will be comforting families with our words and our prayers.

For those that are interested-please email us at uraboverubies@gmail.com
All you have to do is state your interest (no personal information) and details will be sent periodically to you. I will be providing the cards and the supplies-all that I ask for are your encouraging words. (No gang references)
